My Approach with Hotel Photography…
Hotel photography is a very specialized niche that requires an experienced professional team to capture brand defining imagery for the client. Every hotel and hotel brand has a distinct personality and style that has the potential of being elevated with gorgeous hotel photography. Some hotels/brands request a look that is moody with nighttime lighting, and others require bright daytime, and natural lighting. Sometimes there is a little mix of both looks, depending on the shots and objective. I like to collaborate with the sales and marketing team to identify the look and feel” that is desired in the hotel photography (and if available, study the hotel brand style guide). Once I get the vibe, my team and I strive to capture the essence and personality of the hotel. We focus on clean, detail-oriented images with carefully chosen angles that are
beautifully lit to best highlight the spaces. We usually scout the property before we start shooting so that we can work out the best times of day for each shot in which the lighting would be the most ideal. In hotel photography, it’s much more efficient to prepare and to have a tentative shooting plan that works with all the teams at the hotel. Once we have a game plan,we hit the ground running.
Throughout all our imagery, there will be continuity with the way we photograph the spaces/locations/moments. This is continued with the post-production styling to create memorable and iconic images, while maintaining brand consistency. Our goal with the final
hotel photography is to showcase each location and scenario around the property as an enticing moment that the viewer can imagine themselves experiencing.
I use a Nikon D850 camera for all the hotel photography, which allows me to capture details and color in high quality images that can be rendered in large scale. In post-production, a lot of
time and effort is spent on each image to not only “build” the shot from multiple exposures, but to adjust color, correct distortion, and eliminate unwanted elements (exit signs, outlets, cords, etc.) for clean and perfect images. These images will be finessed to absolute perfection for a polished look for the client.
